RECONSTRUCTION AND ADAPTIVE REUSE OF A FORMER
MISSIONARIES’ HOSPITAL IN THE OLD TOWN OF VILNIUS
pag-grazi2
Housing units are oriented towards the cityscape.

The site is located on the edge of the old town. It has one of the most picturesque viewpoints of the city. It is also centrally located and is a walking distance from the cafes, restaurants, shops and museums. These qualities make this site the perfect location for the new type of elderly housing, so that is why I had chosen elderly housing typology for the project.

World’s population is getting older and the years of healthy living are also constantly growing. It is estimated, that up until 2050ties the percentage of 70-year olds will be twice as big as it is now. As time passes, elderly evolve. They are socially active and need the proximity to the modern life they are used to. The need of the facilities that provide the unisolated assisted living is growing.

The design strategy was to preserve the existing heritage part of the building maintaining its previous healthcare function.
The new lean volumes join the existing soviet structure and serve as oversized cameras overlooking the city.scheme-housing

NEIGHBORHOODS
Neighborhood planning principle encourages bonding
Three senior new housing units consist of the six neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its private single and double bedrooms, with communal kitchens, dining and living areas. Each unit also has an individual nurse station. Gym, medical/therapy and entertainment centers  are easily accessible from each unit.
